Are the Sheryllless days almost over?
Maarten
Quiz: Note triple-L above. Are there (real English) words with such triplets?

"I buy my paint in drums" which is remembered from a cryptic crossword, so I can't claim authorship, it is based on the same anagram principle as some of the others. Look closely at the clue, and you will see it.

Ok, I got the anagram. Pity, man, that it took me so long.

Ogden Nash wrote this:

The one-l lama, he's a priest

The two-l llama, he's a beast

And I will bet a silk pajama

That there is no three-l lllama.

To which he appended the following footnote:

A reader has informed me that there is a kind of fire known as a three-alarmer. Foo

Are you absolutely sure that the original clue wasn't "I stir my paint in drums?"

petrolet -- It may have been. Doesn't change the answer.

Roger -- I assume each "a" is separately pronounced.

NOIP -- The opposite of a heatloss could be called a CHILLLOSS. Accepting its dubious status as a word, what other amazing and extremely unusual property does it have in addition to the triple letter?

Bob in WA: Letters of chillloss are in alphabetical order. Phil

Phil -- You got it! The longest real word I know wit that property is "billowy". And for reverse order is "spoonfed". Way to go, I'm impressed!
